Jackson County Schools Honor State Champion Basketball Teams
JACKSON COUNTY, AL — The Jackson County Board of Education recognized two championship basketball teams during its monthly meeting, celebrating a historic moment for local athletics.
The North Sand Mountain Lady Bison were honored after capturing the Class 2A state championship in Birmingham, marking the first state title in school history for the program. Kayden Reyes was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The team is coached by Jeremiah Haynes.
On the boys’ side, the Section Lions were also recognized after winning the Class 2A state championship. The Lions were led by Brodie Overdear, who scored 17 points in the title game. The team is coached by Derek Wynn and secured its first state title since 2022.
The dual championships mark a milestone for the county, as this is the first time in Jackson County history that two local teams have won state basketball titles in the same year.
School officials praised both teams for their hard work, dedication, and for representing Jackson County on the state stage.
