Winter haters may have reason to celebrate.
Sand Mountain Sam, Alabama’s famous opossum, did not see his shadow Monday in Albertville, signaling an early spring could be on the way.
A dog named Cosmo also predicted an early spring during an event hosted by Huntsville Animal Services, choosing the bowl labeled “early spring” over “more winter.”
Not everyone agrees, though. Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow in Pennsylvania, predicting six more weeks of winter.
Still, Sand Mountain Sam has a strong track record—predicting spring weather for 30 years, with just one reported miss.
