DEKALB COUNTY, AL — The first phase of a major public safety upgrade is now underway in DeKalb County, marking the start of a comprehensive three-phase digital radio system project. The initiative is designed to modernize public safety communications, enhance services for citizens, and provide critical support to first responders.

The new system will significantly improve communication across emergency services and local government agencies, offering more reliable, faster, and clearer transmissions. Once completed, it will strengthen inter-agency coordination and boost response capabilities throughout the county.

Key figures involved in this initial phase include Jimmy Killian, Site Manager for the DeKalb Super Tower Committee; District 3 Commissioner Ron Saferite; and Michael Posey, Director of the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency.

“This is a vital step forward for our public safety infrastructure,” a county spokesperson shared. “We’re investing in the future of DeKalb County by ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to keep our community safe.”

Check back tomorrow for more on the leadership guiding this project, the team behind the planning and management, and what residents can expect as the next phases move forward.
