Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ Running Hot On The Billboard Charts

SHARE NOW

The 30th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind has pushed the grunge classic back into the spotlight and the Billboard charts. The album, which is now back in the Top 50 for the first time in a decade, was originally released on September 24th, 1991, has been certified Diamond in the U.S. for sales of more than 10 million copies. It has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

Loudwire posted the album "re-entered the Top 10 on the Top Rock Albums chart, surging from Number 21 to Number Seven over the anniversary week with over 13,000 equivalent album units earned. There was also a Top 10 return for the record on the Alternative Albums chart where it moved from Number 11 to Number Six. And on the biggest chart of all, the all-encompassing Billboard 200 album chart, Nevermind bounded up from Number 125 to Number 44 over the past week."

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic told us that it was the band's own belief in the power of music that attracted people to them right from the start. ["Nirvana always listened to music or always wanted to connect with something, and the best music is music that you connect with in a way that you can't really put your — you just emotionally connect with it. So if we were projecting anything like that, people caught onto it."] SOUNDCUE (:15 OC: . . . caught onto it)
