Axl Rose displayed his rarely seen nostalgic side on Sunday night (September 12th) during Guns N' Roses concert at Atlantic City, in New Jersey's Etess Arena. Rolling Stone reported prior to the band launching into "Don't Cry" from 1991’s Use Your Illusion I, Rose shed light on how he and Guns co-founding guitarist Izzy Stradlin came up with the tune.
Axl Rose recalled, "This next one is the first song that was written for Guns N’ Roses. I went over to Izzy (Stradlin)'s and I threw some rocks at his window. He came to the window and was worried I came over there to kick his ass. We'd been in an argument for a few months."
He went on to remember, "It was like the Blues Brothers. 'We gotta get the band back together.' We sat down, and I was like, 'Hey, I got some really depressing lyrics.' He was like, 'I got a really depressing guitar part.' I was like, 'Perfect, we got it made.'"
Although Guns N' Roses' reunion shows have been going from strength-to-strength since 2016, Slash told us a while back that he never imagined the original Guns lineup would reunite: ["I never planned or thought that there was gonna be any reunion. Everybody else sort of alluded to it but, y'know, I never saw it coming. I knew it was just an impossible thing, and it wasn't something I really wanted."] SOUNDCUE (:11 OC: . . . something I wanted)
