Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Calls Charlie Watts The ‘Driving Force’ Behind The Stones

SHARE NOW

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about drummer, Charlie Watts.

He said he was personally “hit hard” with the news of his death. As a Stones fan, he called it “the end of an era” within that band, because he was the only drummer that ever recorded with them.

Calling Watts, “the driving force” behind The Rolling Stones, he said, “He was such a significant part of their sound. In a band where the spotlight would go to especially Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, a lot of people truly didn't understand how valuable he was.”

“He could kick these songs and make them swing, make them swagger, still make them have that attitude, that pocket.”

Charlie Watts passed away peacefully in a London hospital surrounded by his family, last week. He was 80 years old.
