Judith “Judy” Ryan Archey
October 8, 1942 - April 26, 2023
Judith “Judy” Archey, 80, of Phenix City, AL went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2023. Judy was born in Chattanooga, TN, but spent many years living in Florida (Palm Beach Gardens, Tampa, Cape Coral, & DeLand) and then retired in Alabama. While in Florida, Judy raised her children Lee and Tonjia, earned her Associate’s degree, became a licensed real estate agent, opened her own real estate company (Modern Age Realty) and became one of the first State Certified Real Estate Appraisers in the State of Florida. She retired from the Department of Revenue in 2005. Judy also enjoyed buying and flipping houses and there wasn’t much remodeling she couldn’t do on her own (though tiling may have been her favorite part).
Judy’s strong Christian faith was a central pillar in her life. She was a devout Christian and spent many happy hours of worship, community, and service in churches wherever she lived including Lookout Valley Baptist Church in Tiftonia/Chattanooga, TN, Eastside Baptist Church in DeLand, FL, Woodland Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL, and most recently White Rock Assembly of God in Phenix City, AL. Her favorite verse of scripture is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
After faith and family, Judy’s passion was fishing. She had many fond memories of fishing with her dad and cousins, and especially of the summer trips as a child to go deep sea fishing on Captain Anderson’s boats out of Panama City Beach, Florida. There are few piers or bridges in Florida that Judy didn’t fish with her best buddy, Nell Quarles. Judy’s other main hobby was genealogy. Judy spent countless hours researching her family history on both the Hartline and Ryan sides and documented about 36,000 family members over 47 generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Archey, son Bill “Lee” Archey Jr., and parents Isaac “Newt” & Virginia Ryan. Judy is survived by her daughter Tonjia (John) Borland; granddaughters Jennifer Archey, Mindy Archey, and Sohvi Borland; great granddaughters Jennavecia Gillis, and Jayda Gillis; sisters Cheryl (John) Spiller and Debra (Greg, deceased) Pasquale; brother Alan (Debbie) Ryan, and an amazing niece, five wonderful nephews, and a good deal of much-loved extended family.
