Elton Joseph Mitchell, 83, of Trenton, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning Oct. 7, 2020 about 12:30 AM. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church on Sand Mountain and was loved by many friends and family throughout Georgia and Vero Beach, Florida. He was a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Vero Beach, Fla. for 10 years and a Deacon at White Oak Baptist Church of Trenton, Georgia on Sand Mountain for 14 years. Elton and his loving wife Martha Emily (Gray) Mitchell of 59 years met and married in Vero Beach where they lived and raised a family. It has been a family sentiment that they both lived off Georgia Hwy 301. "Mitch" as he was affectionately known by friends & family had promised his beloved wife that he would move her back to "the mountain". After living in Vero Beach for 46 years he moved her back to Sand Mountain where she was born and raised and built her a beautiful home on top of that mountain not far off Georgia Hwy 301. Elton was a licensed master plumber and was a member of West Palm Beach Local Union 630. He was also a pipefitter/welder and worked on the Nuclear Power Plant in Hutchinson Island, Fla. Elton was preceded in death by his parents Eli Joseph & Grace (McMullen) Mitchell of Claxton, Georgia, Infant Daughter Tammy Michelle Mitchell Vero Beach, Fla. and 15 half brothers and sisters most from the Claxton, Georgia area where he was born and raised. Elton served in the Army National Guard of Florida Infantry Division for about 8 years and also served in the Transportation Division for the last 2 years during that time. Elton was a member of the American Legion Post 106 in Trenton, Georgia where he was an active member. Left to Cherish his memory is his loving wife of 59 years Martha Mitchell, daughter Rene' Esswein and her husband Chris. son, Eric Joseph Mitchell, Grandson Garrett W. Kaiser II (Tara) Longview, Texas and Granddaughter Sabrina Freeman and Great-granddaughters Ariella Freeman & Gabrielle Freeman. Longview, Texas, Elton's only whole sister Marie Smith (Gary) Claxton, Georgia and their children Phil, Sherry, Kay, Alex and Marshall and their spouses and children also are left to Cherish "Uncle Mitch's" Memory. Sister in law Vera Morris of Vero Beach and her son James "Jimbo" Morris (Julie) along with Great Nephew Garrett Morris are also left to remember the good times at Christmas with "Uncle Mitch". Nephew Kevin Gray (Sherry) Huntsville, Texas and their children Joey, Mark & Emily along with Great Niece Januarie Bliss Lloyd Vero Beach, Fla. and her husband and Family along with Ronnie & Jonanne Bliss (Bessemer, Alabama) and Jackie Bliss (Vero Beach, Fla.( are also left to Cherish "Uncle Mitch's" Memory. Family will receive friends at Ryan Funeral Home Thursday Oct 8, 2020 from 4 PM in the Afternoon until 8 PM in the Evening. Memorial Services will be held with Pastor Jonathan Witt of Woodlawn Baptist Church Officiating at the Chapel in Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton, Georgia on Friday October 9, 2020 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM in the afternoon.
