Tragic Father’s Day Drowning at Johnson Lake


43-year-old father dead of apparent drowning on Father’s Day while he, his wife and 14-year-old son were visiting Dade County from Maryland.

Dade County Sheriff’s Department reported to a call from Johnson’s Crook, near Newsome Gap Road, yesterday in the late hours of the afternoon. The family of three were sitting on the dock of the preserve when the husband and father stated that he was going to attempt to swim from one side of the lake to the other. His wife called 911 when he never made it to the other side.

According to Sheriff Ray Cross, local rescue workers were assisted by two members of the Hamilton County Dive Team, where they were unable to locate the 43 year old husband and father’s body until 4 AM Monday morning.
