IDER -- John Harold Underwood, 58, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Underwood served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Widows Creek Steam Plant.
Survivors include son, Christopher Underwood, Winchester, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Jeanie Underwood, Chattanooga, John Paul Gilreath, Ider, Rodney and Krista Gilreath, Ider; mother, Magalene Underwood, Ider; brothers, Bobby Underwood, Eddie Underwood, Donnie Underwood, Ider, James Underwood, Chickamauga, GA., Michael Underwood, New Mexico; granddaughter, Heaven Leigh Underwood.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, at 3 p.m. CDT in Corner Stone Funeral Chapel.
Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Billy Mahan Jr.
BRYANT Billy Mahan Jr., 48, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009.
He was born Oct. 15, 1960
He was a woodcraftsman for McMahan Furniture and a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Mahan Sr.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tillie Mahan; three daughters and husbands, Trish and Steven Howell, Trenton, Ga., Tracy and Jeremy Hawkins, Bryant, and Toni Blaylock, Trenton; two sons and wife, Joshua and Tasha Mahan, Campbellsville, Ky., and Thomas Cornett, Bryant; mother, Ruth Mahan, Bryant; seven brothers, Perry Conkle, Ike Conkle, Robert Lee Conkle, all of Trenton, Larry and Vickie Conkle, Higdon, Ala., Dewyne Mahan, Mike Mahan and Timothy Mahan; 11 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Pittman officiating.
Interment will be held in Oak Lawn Memorial Park

John Coates
ROSSVILLE — John Curtis “Curt” Coates, 32, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
He was a lifelong resident of Walker County. Mr. Coates attended Mountain View Elementary, Gordon Lee High School and Ridgeland High School. He grew up in Wesley United Methodist Church and especially loved his childhood Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Irene Jenkins. Mr. Coates was formerly employed by Rexam Inc. and he had enjoyed many years of work in the construction field. He enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar, and most of all spending time with Alyssa.
Mr. Coates was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Jeremy Thomas Coates on May 22, 2008. Grandparents, Charles Thomas Coates Sr. and Kathryn and Leland Grant (Kate and Papa); and uncle, Dave Kendrick.
Curt is survived by his beloved daughter, Alyssa Curtlyn Coates, of Chickamauga, Ga.; parents, Charles and Susan Grant Coates; grandmother, Mrs. Louise Coates “Memaw”, of Hooker, Ga. and his loyal dog, Jack.
After a year of extreme loss, grief, and confusion, Curt is at peace in his Heavenly home with Jesus and with his brother Jeremy.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will have everlasting life.
Funeral services will he held at 2 p.m. EDT today in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Kapherr officiating.
Interment will be in Hooker Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Perry Bell, Mike Hensley, Tommy Bruce, Shannon Wilson, Mark Wallin, Tim Boatright and Billy Jack Hudgens.

TRENTON — Jasmine Grace Phillips, infant daughter of Randy and Melanie Phillips, went to heaven to be an angel Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Survivors include her sister, Miranda Phillips; grandparents, Deborah and Donald Young, Rossville, Timothy and Jamie Noggle, Columbus, Miss., Roy and Rhonda Hillis, Trenton; aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Randy Lee Phillips.

Willie Crane
TRENTON — Willie Mae “Judy” Crane, 78, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Mrs. Crane attended Trenton Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Crane.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Crane, Trenton, Larry Crane, Chattanooga; two grandchildren, David Crane and Shelby Boatner, both of Chattanooga; three great-grandchildren, Trace Boatner, Trenton, Whitney and Brittany Crane, Chattanooga; one sister, Clara Allison, Atmore, Ala.; one brother, Herbert Luker; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. EDT Friday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Woody Allison officiating.
Interment will be in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

Marie Pickett
RISING FAWN — Marie Pickett, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in a local health care center after a long battle with cancer and COPD.
Mrs. Pickett was a longstanding member of Rising Fawn United Methodist Church. A prolife social activist, she worked tirelessly to establish the first AARP Chapter in Dade County and to serve as it’s first president and regional director.
She will be remembered in the hearts of many for her years of dedication to the care and well-being of others as a Hospice caregiver and an active supporter of the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Presley Pickett; brother, Jerry Johnston; and sister, Betty Flournoy.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry W. Pickett and his wife, Patti, Ronald N. Pickett and his wife, Patti. Grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Katherine Nyvy, David Pickett, Christa Pickett, Matthew Pickett, Jessica Pickett, Jessica Branson, Melanie Paul, Kathryn Jarrett; and several great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Rising Fawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Sullins Lamb officiating.
Mrs. Pickett requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund.

TRENTON — Freddy Lee Pruitt, 55, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009.
He was born Jan. 30, 1954 to the late Lee and Cathleen Pruitt
He was employed with Sequatchie Concrete, he like motorcycles and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rocelia Pruitt; daughter and husband, Christina and Brad Gatlin, Fort Oglethorpe; son and wife, Chris and Jessica Pruitt, LaFayette, Ga.; stepson and wife, Robert and Shelly Dunn, Trenton; stepson, Clayton Moreland; Trenton, four grandchildren, Jayden Folds, Isaac Moreland, Anna Gatlin and Mason Pruitt.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. EDT Saturday in the Trenton chapel with the Rev. Terry Trivette officiating.
Burial will be held in Payne Gap Cemetery.

David Workman, 45, of Chattanooga passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Workman; and two brothers, Dwight Workman and Michael Workman.

Brinie Bethune
TRENTON — Brinie Osbie Bethune, 78, passed away Friday June 19, 2009, following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from the United States Naval Reserves and Tri State Carpenters, a member of Carpenters Local No. 74 and Navy Seabee Veterans of America. Known for his patriotic spirit and community involvement, Osbie will be missed by many.
For most of his life, he was involved with several military organizations. He served as commander in the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was instrumental in the creation of the Veterans Memorial Park in Trenton. As commander of the American Legion Post 106 for several years, he was responsible for the construction of the Activity Building, which is used extensively by members and community alike.
Involved with the Dade County Historical Society, his passion to preserve historical information was evident by his wealth of knowledge about the community and its rich history.
In 1992, the Georgia General Assembly recognized Mr. Bethune as a distinguished citizen for his love of the United States of America and for his work on heritage preservation. Family and friends will remember him for his wit and charm and the love he had for music and singing.
Mr. Bethune was preceded in death by his parents, Orbie and Ruby Bethune; son, Dwight Bethune; sisters, Mary Ruth Weldon, and Ollie Mae Gass; brother, Verlin Bethune.
Survivors include daughters, Vickie R. Bethune, of LaFayette, Ga., Verana D. Barron, of Dalton, Ga., Karen L. Shepard, of Fort Mills, S.C., Beverly J. Hawkins, of Wildwood, Ga., and Onvil M. Moore, of Sand Mountain; son, Jerry H. Bethune, of Trenton; sisters, Onvil Robinson, of Chattanooga, and Renee Richard, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brothers, Davis Bethune, of Higdon, Ala., and James Bethune of Dutton, Ala.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A special thank you is extended to his dear friend, Gladys Satterfield, for her steadfast friendship.
Funeral services will be held at noon EDT Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Virgil Stone officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at 2 p.m. EDT in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

TRENTON — Terry Gene Powell, 46, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009.
He was a lifelong resident of Rising Fawn, loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ellen Givens.
Survivors include his loving wife, Starla Powell; daughter, Shalina Faith, of Fyffe, Ala.; son, Brandon Tyler Powell, of Rising Fawn, Ga.; sister, Deborah Hiland, of Fort Payne, Ala.; special sister, Tammy Williams; parents Richard and Mary Powell; two nephews, Justin and Michael Hiland; and a host of friends.

RISING FAWN - Arbutus ?Evelyn? Lively Wolff, 87, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009.
She was born in Dunlap, Tenn., to the late Will and Nora Perry Lively. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was of the Baptist faith and had lived most of her life in Northwest Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wolff; a daughter, Ann Wolff Morgan; and nine siblings.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Carolyn Wolff, of Flintstone, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Connie Bradford, Faye and Denny Gray, all of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; her stepchildren, Willard and Walter Wolff, Evelyn Twitley and Louise Cooper; sister, Clara Newman, of Dunlap, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday morning prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the chapel with the Rev. Jim Hixon officiating.
Interment will follow in Lookout Cemetery, High Point, Ga.
